The Bucs Prepare for Postseason Play
The Dawson Community College baseball team wrapped up a historic regular season with a performance that will be remembered as one of the best in program history. The Buccaneers finished second in the MonDak Conference—their highest finish since 2016—while also setting a new school record for most conference wins in a single season (16).
This year's success was fueled by both team consistency and standout individual achievements. Dominic Phillips etched his name into the record books by breaking the program's all-time career home run record, showcasing his power at the plate throughout his career. Meanwhile, Jace Jarrett became the school's all-time leader in career hits, a testament to his reliability and offensive production over multiple seasons.
On the mound, Henry Wilson delivered a dominant conference stretch, posting a stellar 1.11 ERA while going a perfect 4-0 in his outings. His consistency and command played a crucial role in the Buccaneers' record-setting conference performance. As a staff, Dawson's pitchers combined for the second-lowest conference ERA since 2017, underscoring the group's overall effectiveness and depth.
Head Coach Kyle Fultz credited the team's work ethic and unity as key factors behind the milestone season.
"This group has put in the work day in and day out," Fultz said. "They've bought into the process, supported each other, and played the game the right way. To see them accomplish something like this—setting records and putting Dawson back near the top of the conference—is really special."
The Buccaneers now turn their attention to the postseason, where they will face Dakota College at Bottineau on Saturday, May 2nd. With a series win, Dawson has the opportunity to advance to regionals for the first time since 2022, when they last made an appearance via an automatic bid.
"We're not done yet," Fultz added. "The goal has always been to keep playing as long as we can. We've put ourselves in a great position, and now it's about finishing the job."
