Bucs Offense Leads the Way in Conference Opening Sweep
The Dawson Community College Buccaneers delivered a dominant performance this weekend, sweeping North Dakota State College of Science in an impressive opening Mon-Dak Conference series. The Bucs outscored the Wildcats 57 - 23 on the weekend en route to the sweep headlined by 9 home runs and a .431 batting average.
Game one was a 12-1 victory for the Bucs headlined by a Trajan Sparks 5 RBI performance. Sparks the redshirt-freshman from Montana went 2-3 with a home run and a walk in the game. Teagan Reisdorfer also led the Bucs offensively falling just a single short of the cycle. The Bucs got on the board early in the first following a Reisdorfer double that plated Jace Jarrett and then a walk by Patrick Victoria allowing Dominic Phillips to cross home in the opening frame. After this the Bucs never looked back scoring 5 in the second highlighted by singles from Phillips, a home run from Reisdorfer, single from Jackson Irving and lastly a double from Victoria. The Bucs also were gifted a clinic on the mound from freshman pitcher Henry Wilson, Wilson went the complete game only allowing 4 hits and 1 run and 6 strikeouts, over his 5 innings of work in the mercy rule victory.
Game two started right where game one ended. The Bucs won 12-2 led by Henry Wilson who had 6 RBI's and 2 hits. The Bucs offense exploded for 13 hits over the 5 innings with long balls coming from Jace Jarrett, Teagan Reisdorfer and Wilson. The Bucs opened the scoring yet again in the first inning of this game due to a Trajan Sparks base hit, double from Wilson and a Sac fly from shortstop Jackson Irving. The Bucs scored 2 more in the third inning thanks to Reisdorfer's second home run of the day and then piled on 5 more runs in the fourth inning. The Dawson Pitching staff almost did the unthinkable in this game, taking a no hitter into the very last frame, Griffin Lafreniere started the game and went 2 innings of no hit ball with 1 strikeout. Following his opening bid the Bucs turned to Eli Stokes, Stokes would go on to finish the game throwing 3 innings only giving up 1 hit and 2 runs.
Game three was a tough extra inning battle for the Bucs with the final score being 15-8 after a 10 run top of the 8th inning. The Bucs scored in the first inning for the third game in a row thanks to a solo home run from Dominic Phillips who is now 5 away from breaking the all time record. The Bucs would score 4 more in the 4th inning on an Elijah Morales base hit followed by a Sac fly from Ulises Del Rosario, this proved to not be enough as the game would get tied and need to go into extras. In that extra inning the Bucs offense woke up and piled on 10 runs thanks to base hits from Brock Clonce, Dominic Phillips and a Jackson Irving home run. Teagan Reisdorfer got the start on the mound for the Bucs and went 5 innings while scattering 4 hits and only giving up 1 earned run while striking out 6.
Game four the Bucs scored again in the first inning this time putting up 8 in the opening Frame. The first inning was highlighted by another Dominic Phillips home run and base hits from Jace Jarrett, Easton Jones and a sac fly from Henry Wilson. The offensive exploded for 17 hits this game and 7 stolen bases. The Bucs continued the offensive party by scoring another run in the third thanks to a Trajan Sparks double that plated Teagan Reisdorfer. Dawson would score again in the 4th from a double by Jarrett and then pile on 6 more runs in the 6th inning, Jarret would hit his second home run of the weekend followed by a Sparks base hit and a base hit from catcher Josh Doll. The Bucs would turn to Cooper Elliott on the mound who has
been nothing but reliable for the Bucs this year and this stayed true, Elliott would go 4 innings only allowing 2 hits and 0 earned runs.
The Bucs are tied for first place in the Mon-Dak heading into next weekend where they will play Miles Community College who they are tied with. Game times and dates are still undetermined due to weather conditions.
