Bucs Sweep Dakota College at Bottineau
The Dawson Community College baseball team swept Dakota College at Bottineau this past weekend. The Buccaneer offense outscored the lumberjacks 56 - 15 over the weekend and is looking to take that momentum into next weekends conference series Vs. Lake Region State College. The Bucs now sit tied for second in the conference with an overall 10-2 record and control their own destiny to win the conference.
In game one of the series the Bucs got yet another stellar pitching performance from freshman Henry Wilson who threw a complete game shutout. He finished with a stat line of 5.0 innings pitched with 3 strikeouts and only scattering 4 hits. Another common them for the Bucs offense has been scoring early, this stayed true as in the first inning Trajan Sparks doubled to bring in Jace Jarrett who led off the inning with a double of his own. The Bucs scored another run in the second thanks to a single from Ulises Del Rosario. The Bucs would pile on in the 4th inning and score 6 runs before scoring 2 more in the 5th to end the game in mercy rule fashion. The 4th inning was highlight by a Patrick Victoria home run and hits from Jackson Irving, Jace Jarrett, Dominic Phillips and Ulises Del Rosario. Freshman shortstop Jackson Irving headlined the offense with a 3 for 3 day while Teagan Reisdorfer and Patrick Victoria also had a multi hit performance.
Game 2 of the series put the Bucs to the test. The game ended up going 9 innings and ended due to a Jackson Irving walk off single that plated Henry Wilson. Dawson Community College got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after 2 Bottineau errors were committed. A Patrick Victoria walk and Brock Clonce single is all the Bucs needed to get score 3 runs and open up the game. Glendive Native Brock Clonce came up in a huge moment for the Bucs again deceiving a double in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game and then a sac fly by Kenney Kuchynka in the 5th game the Bucs a 5-4 lead. The lumberjacks would score a run in the 6th to tie the game and eventually push the game into extra innings. The Dawson bullpen stepped up in the game when called upon. Starter Griffin Lafreniere opened the game tossed 3 strong innings to open the game before falling into trouble in the 4th. The Bucs looked to Redshirt-Freshman Thomas Stokes first out of the pen who came in and shut the lumberjack offense down. He tossed 2.2 innings striking out 5 and only allowing 1 unearned run. Veteran pitcher Jason Jones would come in and pick up right where Stokes left off, he would toss 2.1 innings of shutout ball only surrendering 2 hits while striking out 2 and getting the win for the buccaneers.
Game three of the series was all Dawson. The Bucs opened up the game scoring 12 runs in the first inning and never looked back. Patrick Victoria drove in eight runs on three hits to lead the offense in this game. Patrick Victoria doubled twice in the first inning alone scoring 5 runs in total, he would then double in the fourth scoring another two runs.Dawson Community College got on the board in the top of the first inning after Trajan Sparks drew a walk, scoring one run, Victoria doubled, scoring three runs, Elijah Morales doubled, scoring one run, Dominic Phillips was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Teagan Reisdorfer drew a walk, scoring one run, Trajan Sparks drew a walk, scoring one run, Henry Wilson drew a walk, scoring another run. Dominic Phillips would hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the second to continue the offensive parade. The Bucs continued to pile on runs in the 3rd inning thanks to a Bryson Allen single to center field, a Jace Jarrett walk, Dominic Phillips sac fly and a Teagan Reisdorfer single. Kenney Kuchynka earned the win for Dawson Community College.
