Lady Bucs Volleyball Gets Big Conference Win Against NDSCS
The Lady Bucs started their second round of conference play this past week with games against Lake Region and North Dakota School State College of Science, who are the #2 and #1 ranked teams in the MonDak Conference. After getting a non-conference win against Rocky JV on Monday evening in a five set thriller the Bucs lost to Lake Region in three straight sets on Tuesday night. The Lady Bucs headed into Wednesday night's game against NDSCS knowing it was going to be a tough match up. The NDSCS Wildcats were currently unbeaten in Conference play and the Bucs had yet to beat them in the known history of the program. After coming out slow and losing the first set 14-25 the Lady Bucs bounced back taking the next three sets 25-21, 25-17 and 26-24.
Leading the team in kills was Jerel White Grass with 11 and followed closely by Destiny Thompson with 9. Aspen Baird led the team in assists with 26 and Emmie Fishell had a great night at the serving line and ended the match with 5 aces. Gracie Kuntz finished with 15 digs to lead the Bucs followed by Baird with 11 and Thompson with 8. Nikki Roberts was a force at the net alongside Thompson who both finished with 2.5 blocks.
"This win is a great confidence booster for our team", said head coach Dina Fritz, "we finally put together a good game from start to finish. I told the team after the match that this a good step but it is not the last step or the only step, the season does not finish now, we need to keep improving and be ready to finish out the rest of our season in the next couple weeks."
The Bucs are back on the road after having three home games in a row. They take on Carroll JV on Saturday October 11 in Miles City at 4pm followed by traveling to Bottineau ND on Tuesday October 14 to take on conference opponent Dakota College Bottineau at 6pm MST, before returning home against Williston State on October 16 for Pink Night at 6pm.
