Dawson Bucs Find New Homes at the Four Year Level
After a record breaking season, all of the Buccaneer basketball sophomores have signed to play at the next level.
"This was such a special group of sophomores we had this year," explained Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "They gave their heart and soul to this community, the college and our program. They achieved great things individually, and even greater things collectively. Their character, work ethic and leadership was the driving force behind a season that Buccaneer fans will never forget."
This past week, Sam Massaquoi, a 5'10 guard from Minneapolis, MN, signed with Florida College, an NAIA school in Temple Terrace, Florida. Massquoi averaged 7.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this past season while shooting 51% from the field and 43.5% from the 3-point line. He will bring his tenacious on ball defense along with his fearless driving and finishing to the Falcons program.
Kur Maler, a 6'9 forward from Melbourne, Australia, signed at Kentucky State University, an NCAA D2 program in Frankfort, Kentucky. Maler 8.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game this past season. He will bring size, athleticism, shooting, and rim protection to the Thorobreds.
Jordan Jasper and Justin Asi will still be teammates after Dawson. The duo signed at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Ferris State won a D2 National Championship in 2018 and has also reached the final four in recent years. Jasper earned all-conference and all-region honors, averaging 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game this past season, while shooting over 50% from the field, 40% from 3-point range and 75% from the free throw line. Asi also earned all-conference and all-region honors and leaves Dawson as one of the top ten all-time in scoring, field goals, field goal percentage, and 3-point percentage.
Seth Amunrud originally signed with the University of Denver, but decommitted after the season and signed with his hometown school, Montana State University. Amunrud goes down in the history books as one of the most decorated Bucs of all-time, earning Conference MVP, Region MVP, 2nd Team All-American and being selected for the NJCAA All-Star Game. He ranks in the top 5 all-time at Dawson for scoring, field goals, field goal percentage, 3 pointers made, 3-point percentage, free throws made, free throw percentage, and steals.
Peterson continued, "I can't thank these guys enough for choosing Dawson and for all they've given. They will be missed dearly, but I'm excited to see them continue to grow during this next stage of their life and we will be watching them help lead their new programs to great heights!"
