Dawson Easily Handle Stone Child
The DCC Buccaneers closed out the fall semester with a blowout win over Stone Child College 118-64. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but had to be postponed because of personal issues for the visitors. Wednesday’s game fell in the middle of Final Exam week and the Bucs looked a little rusty since they hadn’t played a game for 11 days. Their outside shots weren’t falling so Dawson used their pressure defense to force turnovers and get out in transition and had good success attacking the rim.
After the first eight minutes, Dawson only had a four point advantage at 20-16 when Mike Sangrey made a 3-pointer for the visitors. The Bucs went on a 37-12 run after that to push their lead to 29, but Stone Child closed the half strong with Chris Brown scoring the final five points to make it 61-39 at the half. Dawson scored the first six points of the second half, but Stone Child came right back with the next eight points. DCC subbed in their next five and went on a 25-3 run to put the game out of reach. Stone Child went cold from the outside and Dawson’s depth was just too much. They were outscored 57-25 in the second half. The largest lead of the game was 54 points which is how the game ended.
Dawson forced 27 turnovers and converted them into 50 points while outrebounding the visitors 57-35 and scoring 20 second chance points. It was a balanced effort with ten of the eleven players suited up scoring at least 5 points.
Dawson had three guys who scored over 20 points. Kolten Hitt had 22 points. Beau Santistevan had 20 points and 5 rebounds. Man Man Baker also scored 20 points on 10-12 shooting from the field to go along with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Kayden Hitt had a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and 4 assists.
With the win, Dawson is 9-5 on the season heading into a short break for Christmas. They will travel to Arizona to play in the Phoenix College Classic on December 29 and 30.
