Lady Bucs Pick Up Convincing Victory
The Lady Bucs came out hot and stayed hot Monday night in Glendive versus United Tribes Technical College. Julia Aragon and Hannah McDonald came out aggressive in the first minute, converting aggressive drives to put the Lady Bucs up 4-0 before the crowd could even get settled. An aggressive press gave the Lady Bucs an early 9-3 advantage on a three pointer by Hannah McDonald 1:40 into the game. Ronessa Sazue got hot in the first frame for UTTC, but the suddenly very deep Lady Bucs used 12 players in the 1st quarter to end the frame leading 22-13.
The Lady Bucs came out even more aggressive in the second quarter as they built a 43-23 lead on a Jana Llobera 3-pointer with 3:48 left in the frame. A little bit of sloppiness allowed UTTC to trim the halftime lead to 48-33. The Lady Bucs connected on eight-three point baskets in the first half. The depth and pace set by the Lady Bucs was wearing down UTTC.
The third quarter was a little bit sloppy as both teams traded baskets for the first five minutes. The Lady Bucs ultimately won the third quarter 13-12, but they were not happy with a 61-45 lead. Jazmine Half came out in the fourth very aggressively, hitting an early three and flying around the court. Her teammates followed suit, as the Lady Bucs led 79-49 with 5:51 left in the game. The relentless pressure applied by the Lady Bucs wore down UTTC and gave the home team a ton of confidence at the same time. The Lady Bucs rode their deep bench and hectic pace to 93-60 victory.
The victory brings the Lady Bucs home conference record to 3-2, tripling the number of conference wins from a year ago. Coach Todd Ciochetto said, "It was nice to see us play with great pace and great depth. It was a long process to change the culture that was in place the last few years, but these ladies never quit and never stopped believing in themselves. It is nice to see them have life and energy after the hard-work we have all put into to instill the confidence that was lost in September and October. I believe we are setting up for an exciting second half of conference play and hopefully a deep playoff run." The Lady Bucs travel to Bottineau on Thursday to take on the Jacks.
