Dawson Wins Game Two of Regionals in Walk-Off Fashion
Dawson Community College Softball seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off double at the end of the game to topple Miles Community College. The game was tied at eight with DCC batting in the bottom of the seventh when Sofee Thatcher doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
A six-run lead in the fifth inning was just enough for the Lady Bucs to hold off the Pioneers for the victory. MCC scored six runs in the failed comeback on a double by Elizabeth Ybarra, two errors by DCC, and a home run by Taylor Feller.
Heather Berrett started the game in the circle for DCC. The pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits and striking out seven. Once MCC tied it up, Faith McDonald came in for the last out and was credited with the victory for the Buccaneers. The righty lasted one-third of an inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Dawson hit three home runs on the day. Bailey Hansen, Breana Hiatt , and Tyra Coats went for the long ball early in the game. Overall, the Lady Bucs saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits in the game. Thatcher, Coats, Jillian Johnson, and Mckenzie Harbison all managed multiple hits.
Head softball coach Tami Lagmay had this to say about the day, "I am really proud of our girls. They fell asleep for a little in that last inning, but they pulled it out at the end. When you are up six runs, it is easy to become complacent, but with a good team like Miles you can't do that. We need to take it one pitch at a time tomorrow all the way until the very last inning."
Your Lady Bucs will be back in action for the region championship game tomorrow at 12PM MST. Come out and support your softball girls as they face the winner of the Miles Community College versus Dakota County Tech College game at 10AM.
