Buckmon and Oguekwe Moving on

Ty Buckmon and Roniel Oguekwe have been key pieces to the success of the Dawson Basketball team for the past two years, helping the Bucs to a 49-15 record, two Tip-Off Tournament Championships. In both years, Dawson finished as runners-up in the conference regular season and the region tournament. They will both be moving on to continue their education and compete in basketball at the NCAA level.
Buckmon, a 6'3 guard out of The Woodlands, Texas, signed at Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. The Mountaineers are coached by Zac Claus and a member of the NCAA D2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). In this past season at Dawson, Buckmon averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game while finishing in the Top 10 in six categories in the conference including scoring, 3-pointers made, free throws made, free throw percentage, assists and steals. He also finished second in assists and third in steals. Buckmon scored in double figures 22 times in his 31 games played and reached 20 points 8 times. He was named Mon-Dak All-Conference 1st team, All Region XIII and NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention.
Roniel Oguekwe, a 6'7 forward from Galway, Ireland signed at Caldwell University in Caldwell, New Jersey. The Cougars are coached by Dean Johnson and a member of the NCAA D2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). This year at Dawson, Oguekwe averaged 9.7 points and 6.9 rebounds and shot 55% from the field. He scored in double digits in 15 games this year and had a season high of 21 points against Williston State College on his sophomore night when he went a perfect 10-10 from the field. Oguekwe was 3rd in the conference in offensive rebounds, 6th in field goal percentage, 6th in blocks and 7th in total rebounds. He was named Mon-Dak All Conference 2nd team.
Dawson Coach Joe Peterson commented, "These two have been great players and great leaders for us these past two years and will be dearly missed. Western Colorado and Caldwell each got a winner who will instantly make their program better. I'm happy that both Ty and Rony found good fits where they can excel and be successful on and off the court!"
