Dawson’s Roniel Oguekwe Selected to Attend Captains Academy
Xenia, OH, May 18th, 2023— Dawson Buccaneer Roniel Oguekwe will be attending the Captains Academy this week in Xenia, Ohio. Oguekwe will get the opportunity to learn and grow alongside other college basketball players from around the country.
The Transfer Portal and the climate of the NIL-era is an ever-changing backdrop to navigate. It is this environment that coaches are tasked to build a culture within and players are asked to lead their teams and perform to their highest potential. And it is these reasons why Athletes In Action's (AIA) Captains Academy is more valuable than ever.
One of a kind, this five day immersion experience is built on legacy–with former college basketball captains mentoring and teaching the next generation of leaders, lessons replicated both on and off the court of competition. The curriculum is a mixture of experiences shared, classroom work and team building activities. It is additionally filled with special guests, such as legendary commentator, Clark Kellogg or a current NBA star. Past participants in this event include current Boston Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla and NBA players Grant Williams (Boston Celtics), Duncan Robinson (Miami Heat), and Alex Caruso (Chicago Bulls).
Lessons learned range from leadership skills of communication, personality temperaments, self-awareness, conflict management, and healthy ways to engage in team building dialogue and servant leadership.
Annually hosted by AIA at their World Headquarters in Xenia, OH, the leadership transformation will expand throughout the nation as 19 athletes from 15 universities seek to enrich their leadership.
