Dawson’s Mpoyo Named NJCAA All-American
The NJCAA Division I All-American teams were released this week and the Buccaneer's Joe Mpoyo was honored among the nation's best. Mpoyo is only the 5 th Buccaneer basketball player all-time to receive All-American status in their 65 year history.
The 6'4'' sophomore from Meridian, Idaho averaged 16 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while making a league best 83 three-pointers on the season. Mpoyo reached double figures in 24 of their 32 games and scored at least seven points in every game this season. His season high was 36 points against Bismarck State in which he made 12-16 FGs and connected on eight triples. He led the Bucs in scoring in 15 games this season and helped the Bucs to a 24-8 record and reach the Region XIII Championship Game for the 6th time in 8 seasons.
Fifty players were honored on the 2022-2023 All-American team out of over 2000 NJCAA Division I basketball players. The previous Dawson All-Americans include Charles Lampten, Simon Falokun, Doug Frederick and Gary Bauman.
