DCC Baseball is pleased to announce the first commit for the 2018-19 season. Keenan O’Brien, a 5’11 catcher from Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colorado. “Keenan came on a visit this summer to take a look at the campus and learn about our program, but we didn’t have time to work out. We invited him to come back and work out with us this fall and we are glad that it was able to fall in place the way it did. We really liked him behind the plate during his workout. He has good arm strength and he is loose and athletic behind the dish. We are expecting him to come in next fall and have the ability to compete right away” said DCC Baseball Coach Chris Lewis.
O’Brien played this past summer for the Legacy Thunderbolts, who participated in The Goldsmith Gallery/Make-A-Wish Foundation Tournament held at Dehler Park in Billings. O’Brien and the Thunderbolts beat the Billings Royals 4-2 in the semifinal and were named champions after beating the Billings Scarlet’s 5-2 in the title game.
Keenan had this to say on choosing DCC, “The reason I chose to attend Dawson Community College for Baseball next year is really two fold. I met with the coaches this past summer and after talking with them I knew they were the kind of staff I wanted to play for. Their love of the game and passion to make their players the best they could be, both on and off the field, impressed me and my parents. They seemed very honest and passionate about the program and their players and I knew I would not just be a number to them. When I returned to visit in the fall, I met the team and knew I was home. They readily welcomed me and made me feel as if I was part of their team already. I am very excited to be heading to a school that has my academic program as well as a baseball team that I know will make my college experience memorable.”
Bucs baseball will open up the 2018 spring season February 23rd on the road in Twin Falls, Idaho with a three game set against College of Southern Idaho.
